How to Find the Best Date Ideas Online

April 1st, 2011 by Nick Notas 0 Comments

Racking your brain trying to come up with creative date ideas? When I get stuck and need to find something interesting to do, I rely on my old friend, the internet.

With the tools of the internet at your fingertips, anyone can discover a fresh and unique dating experience. Staying current with what’s going on in your area sets you apart from the standard dinner-and-a-movie guy.

User Review Sites

Favorite: Yelp

Yelp has more to offer than just restaurant reviews. You can find a variety of art shows, music venues, outdoor parks, and nightlife. The hidden gem comes from “Yelp Events” which posts interesting upcoming events. I took my girlfriend to the Ice Cream Showdown last summer and had an all-you-can-eat of Boston’s best. It was awesome.

Other suggestions: Citysearch, Tripadvisor (Click “Things to Do”)

Deal-of-the-Day Sites

Favorite: Groupon

These sites have cool deals on everything from kayaking adventures to quiet stays at a “castle resort.” Horseback riding, boat cruises, orchestra tickets, and classes for glass blowing and cooking are just some of the fun things I’ve seen posted. For example, you can have an underwater adventure on the cheap.

Other suggestions: LivingSocial, Yipit, BuyWithMe

Concert & Festival Sites

Favorite: Eventful

Concerts and festivals are always a good time and eventful organizes them perfectly. You can search for upcoming performances around you and it’s easy to buy tickets. They have other categories of events, but music gigs are definitely their forte. I’m thinking of catching DJ Tiesto on Wednesday, heard he puts on a sweet show.

Other suggestions: Stubhub, Ticketmaster

Local Events and Magazine/Newspaper Sites

Favorite: Boston.com

So many dates waiting to happen: Shakespeare in the Commons, flea markets, indie art fairs, discounted gourmet meals, and outdoor movie screenings. If you don’t know your local sites, search for “[city] events” and you should find a good place to start.

Other suggestions: City of Boston, Boston Phoenix (Newspaper), Improper Bostonian (Magazine)
